Elmhurst and David Wilson produce the first new build EPC
Elmhurst Energy and David Wilson Homes have produced the first Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for a ‘New Dwelling’ in England and Wales
Elmhurst Energy has produced the first ‘On-construction’ Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for a new house on ‘The Chestnuts’ development just completed by David Wilson Homes in Leicestershire. EPCs become mandatory for all ‘new dwellings’ in England and Wales on the 6th April this year under the European Energy Performance of Buildings Directive. EPCs have already become established as part of the Home Information Pack (HIP) for the sale of existing dwellings since August last year.
Design director for David Wilson Homes East Midlands, Derek Caddy, said, “I am genuinely thrilled that, with Elmhurst, we have been able to achieve this important UK first. In future years I believe people will look back at the introduction of EPCs as one of the most significant moments in the history of energy conservation in the UK. It may seem like a small step now but it brings the issue of global warming home to everyone at an individual level, in the place that is most important to us all – our home. It makes us all responsible for the future of the planet.”
Elmhurst Energy Systems is the first company to successfully operate Government-approved software to produce an ‘On-construction’ EPC, and is also the first company to accredit energy assessors to be able to produce ‘On-construction’ EPCs from this point forward – in advance of the official start date.
